Game Developers Conference 2003

[01] San Jose winters are harsh!
[02] Indeed!
[03] Mountains in the distance.
[04] 1st Street, where convention attendees get gouged.
[05] The big church.
[06] A graphic designer's best friend.
[07] Early, on the first day at the convention centre.
[08] Inside, the calm before the storm. (Microsoft sponsorship overdose?)
[09] People start to arrive... and play video games!
[10] The expo opens. Still setting up.
[11] Nokia's booth attracts a lot of interest -- even while they're still setting up.
[12] The new N-Gage gamepad/cellphone sure looks sexy.
[13] Too bad you can't pick it up and try holding it. (The large Finnish bouncers make sure of that!)
[14] nVidia tries hard to impress with lots of real-time demos.
[15] Protesting a game developer conference?! Wait a second...
[16] Some of this year's Independent Games Festival Competition entries. Geoff (at right, with Base Golf) recognized my name (on my badge) from Usenet!
[17] Garage Games attempts to publish indie-style.
[18] Some Game Developers Choice Award winners on display.
[19] Character physics is a big deal this year, with some very impressive demos.
[20] Some of us from the Indie Game Jam, just hangin out, eating lunch.
[21] I finally remember to get someone to take my picture. Jonathan Blow obliges.
[22] Playstation has a suitably impressive booth. Pushing their Linux dev system for hopeful future developers.
[23] You could just hang out and learn Maya all day.
[24] Intel reminds us in a big way that the little CPU they make runs that PC.
[25] Indie Game Jammers get to show off at the GDC Experimental Games Workshop. Johnathan Blow MCs the event to a packed house.
[26] A whirlwind tour of the games ensues.
[27] Masaya Matsuura gives us a preview of his upcoming release at the GDC Experimental Games Workshop.
[28] Clear weather on the flight back provides some great photo ops.
[29] Another.
[30] And another.
[31] And another.
[32] Finally approaching Philidelphia, and then the visibility diminishes en route home to Toronto.
